All American Selections Winner and a long time favorite in the south.  Mustardy hot taste mellows when cooked. Southern Giant Curled mustard's mild flavor is best in cool weather, and a great addition to your vegetable garden and your saladSimilar to Green Wave but not quite as heat tolerant.  Cold-resistant and slow to bolt, the large, upright and vigorous plants spread to 18-24". Harvest young leaves in about 50 days or more mature leaves in about 70. This is one of the fastest growing open-pollinated mustards, but one of the slowest to bolt. Used for fresh market and processing, it has a large upright plant with frilled, heavily curled, dark green leaves. 1000 seeds per package. 

 

Vegetable Garden – Tips on Growing Mizuna (Mustard) Greens From Seed

50-80 Days for Leaf Harvest
This is a staple item for salad mix or can be used as a bunched green. Deeply serrated medium-dark green leaves on long white pencil- thin stalks. Vigorous and prolific for extended harvests. Slow to bolt; cold tolerant. Mild mustard flavor.

I can certainly say how valuable this addition is to any vegetable garden. They are easy to grow, nutritious, flavorful and surprisingly hardy. They can transform vegetable gardening from the normal to a new addition.

DIRECT SOW

 

 

  • From early spring, when the soil can be worked, direct sow the Mizuna seeds 1" apart, with a seed depth of ¼”.
  • Germination Soil Temperature: 40-55ºF (4-13º)C.
  • Germination period is 6-10 days.
  • Sow indoors: Late fall through early spring.
  • Harvest tender young leaves, as older leaves have a very sharp taste.

  • pH range of 6.1-7.0
  • Growing soil temperature of 50-65ºF (10-18º)C.
  • Watering: Moderate and even.
  • Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade,

NUTRIENT REQUIREMENTS: N=LOW, P= LOW, K=LOW.

 

ROTATION CONSIDERATIONS:

 

 

  • Avoid following plants from the Cabbage family.
  • Good Companions: Bush bean, beet, carrot, celery, cucumber, dill, lettuce, mint, nasturtium, onion family, potato, rosemary, spinach and thyme.
  • Bad Companions: Pole bean and strawberry.

GARDEN HINTS:

 

 

All Greens grows well under a wide variety of conditions. Prefers full sun, and grows best in cool weather, with a regular watering schedule. and grows 3-4' tall.
