Angelonia angustifolia

Angelonia is also called summer snapdragon or orchid flower. It has salvia like flowers spires that reach 1-2 feet.  Angelonia attracts Birds, Butterflies and Bees. While most gardeners treat angelonia as an annual, it is a tough perennial in Zones 9-10. Or, if you have a bright, sunny spot indoors, you can even keep it flowering all winter. Can give the appearance of being a delicate and finicky plant however it is actually quite easy. Some say that the fragrance smells like apples. The flower will bloom on upright spikes that are on the tips of the main stem. Angelonia flowers do not need to be deadheaded as they will continue a continuous show of blossoms. You can use Angelonia as an annual bedding plant in masses. They will also grow well in pots and window boxes. sow them directly outdoors in USDA zones 9 through 11. Start them indoors in cooler zones. Seeds usually take about 20 days to germinate, but they can take up to two months. If Angelonia plants begin to sprawl in midsummer, cut them back by about half their height. They will soon regrow and produce a fresh flush of flowers
