Edible soybean, called Edamame in Japan and Mao Dou in China, is grown mainly to harvest the young green-shelled beans for vegetable uses, but not for the matured soybean crops. Plants grow best in warm climates but poorly in cold conditions. 50 seeds per package.

Very productive and flavorful edamame of buttery sweetness on a 16-20" plant.
Vivid green pods have three large beans each.
A highly nutritious bean that is rich in protein, calcium, potassium, phytoestrogens, and many vitamins. Light pubescence on the pods.

DIRECT SOW

in late Spring, after any danger of frost.
Soil temperature should be at 60�-80� F.
Germination is 6-16 days.
Cover seed 1" deep.
Soybean seed germination is relatively sensitive to water content in soil. Seeds can be easily rotted and fail to germinate if over watered or soaked.
Keep soil only moist but not soaked during the germinating period. Edible soybean produces clusters of pods with green beans. Pick the pods when they are plump but still green.

GROWING CONDITIONS:

For continuous supply of beans, sow every 2-3 weeks, through mid-summer. Plant seed 2-3" apart in single rows.

To enjoy Edamame soybeans, use for an excellent snack or appetizers. They are wonderful as an addition to a salad. The cooked or uncooked pods can be stored in the freezer for later uses.
