Vegetable Garden Tips on Growing Mustard Greens From Seed40-60 Days for Leaf HarvestMention the word Mustard Greens and usually some people think of the yellow stuff on hot dogs. It is true that mustard seed is a prime ingredient of the condiment, however this versatile plant has more than one way to please the palate. Mustard Greens can add a new dimension to salads with their meaty, decidedly spicy leaves. Prepare the soil as you would for cabbage, a near relative, by adding compost or other forms of organic matter and working it in well. Mustard is somewhat tolerant of some cold temperatures, and can be sown a few weeks before the last light frost. You can start either indoors or outdoors, however direct sown crops seem to establish themselves faster and grow more vigorously , with most plants ready for harvest with in 40 days from sowing the Mustard Green seed. For the best flavor be sure to provide an even amount of moisture and adequate nutrients especially potassium. Fish emulsion or seaweed fertilizers work very well. DIRECT SOW
