How To Grow Salvia From Seeds
Salvia will generally blooms from July through October. A native from Texas and New Mexico does well in hot and humid climates.
- Salvia prefers well-drained soil that is slightly dry.
- Do not use fertilizer as too much fertilizer will promote a lot of foliage and no blooms!
- Planted best in groups or in borders.
- Deadhead spent flowers frequently to prolong blooming .
OUTDOORS:- In USDA zones 1-8, start indoors for growing as an annual.
- In USDA zones 8-10, sow seed directly outside in the place where you want it to grow as a perennial.
INSIDE: - Recommended in all but USDA zones 8-10.
- Sow 10-12 weeks before average last frost.
SPECIAL GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS:- Seed requires light to germinate.
- Press lightly into very moist soil only on the surface and keep moist, when watering indoors water from below, and if outdoors use a very fine spray as to not bury the fine seeds.
