Portulaca is also called Moss Rose which is a low-growing succulent plant with 1" - 2" double, in brilliant colors and shades of red, rose-pink, orange, yellow, white, and pastels. The plants grow to about 6" tall and can spread up to 20 wide. Portulaca is a sun-loving warm season annual that blooms from early summer to fall. You will find that it self-sows readily and will often comes back the next year. Its flowers open in the day with sun shine and close in the evening or in shade or when it is cloudy. Portulaca really prefers well-drained, sandy loam and is perfect for rock gardens or in hot sunny places. One special trait that it is very drought tolerant - water only occasionally after established or if there are signs of wilting.
