More on Our Organic Vegetable Seeds
By saving seed and passing down to further generations, you are in a sense
controlling your food supply and the lifeline of food. Heirloom and
traditional varieties have endured the test of time as generations of
gardeners have saved seeds and passed down to the next. May it be for
their high nutrition, great taste, or because of the vigorous growth habit,
it is important to preserve as many of those great varieties as possible
for further generations to come.
We do offer both open-pollinated and hybrid seeds in this section as
well as many open-pollinated on other pages of our site. With each of these
they represent agro-biodiversity and a real value to the home gardener,
farmers and the consumer. Of course there are the hybrids and all seeds
have their place, however if you want to ensure that the vegetables, herbs
and flowers that you treasure and love are kept viable and not dropped,
then saving your own Open-Pollinated, Heirloom and Organic Seed and not
hybrid (as they are true to themselves) is a plan for you to develop.
As long time growers and gardeners, we believe that organic products
are essential for the long time health of the environment, as well as for
all of us. There have been many studies that have shown that when plants
use their own defense systems for survival and grow in healthy soil, they
can absorb more nutrients like minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. Seeds
are in themselves the force of life. Just like human beings, there is a
time for reproduction, and by allowing your plants to go to seed you are
completing their growth cycle which is essential to all forms of life.
2BSeeds Organic Vegetable Seeds
The organic farmers and suppliers that provide 2BSeeds with organic
seed are certified organic. This certification ensures that they meet all
of the USDA requirements and standards that include soil testing for any
trace of any pesticide residue and that they adhere to approved soil
amendments and their farming procedures are monitored.
All of our seeds are germination and purity tested by an independent
laboratory before we pack your seeds. Thus we are ensuring that the seed
that we pack and sell meet our high standards.
2BSeeds also has the Safe Seed Pledge, which is:
"Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend.
We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for
future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers
who want an alternative,
We pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered
seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of
natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms,
poses great biological risks as well as economic, political, and cultural
threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been
insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing
is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically
engineered seeds. Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that
leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems
and ultimately healthy people and communities."
The safe seed pledge is sponsored and circulated by:
The Council for Responsible Genetics,
which was founded in 1983, and is comprised of scientists, lawyers, public
health advocates and citizens concerned about the social, ethical and
environmental impact of new genetic technologies.
For our seeds, OG means "organically grown" and signifies seeds
harvested from plants grown organically, without synthetic fertilizers or
pesticides and according to National Organic Program standards.
