Flower Garden � Tips on Growing Cosmos From Seeds
Cosmos plants prefer full sun to partial shade. They will do well in both average and poor soils. They are tolerant dry soil conditions. Add a general purpose fertilizer once or twice a season. Cosmos are vigorous, drought tolerant plants that are grown in borders and large pots. Cosmos reseeds themselves easily, making it a nice addition to wildflower or naturalized areas. Cosmos thrives on neglect after established. Taller plants may require staking. However, this can be avoided if planted in an area protected from the wind.
DIRECT SOW
- By scattering seed outdoors after danger of all frost.
- Cover 1/4" deep as they do not need light for germination or plant in a designed bed in the background 10-12" apart.
- Germination is 3-5 days and can take up to 14 days.
GARDEN HINTS: Use for mass plantings. Tolerates poor soil, heat and drought conditions. Dead heading the old blooms will produce many blooms all summer long. Cosmos like full sun.
