Flower Garden � Tips on Growing Carnation From Seeds

Commonly referred to some as the perpetual carnation with multi-pedaled flower that can bloom all year in certain climates.

SOW INDOORS OR DIRECT SOW

Indoors-8-10 weeks before average last day of frost.
Seed requires light to germinate - press lightly into soil surface and do not cover, keep moist.
Until the first true leaves appear, try not to water directly from overhead.
Transplant outdoors after any danger of frost is past, or sow directly outside 2 weeks before last frost, For a showy planting, do groups of 3-4 seedlings.
Outdoor Sowing: Sow the Carnation seeds early in the spring.
Do make sure that the soil is not too wet.
Space seedlings about12" apart.
Germination period is 10-14 days at 70�F. You will find that carnation plants are very easy to grow.

They will grow big, full blooms on strong, straight stems. They prefer full sun and a rich, well-drained soil. Water them during dry periods, once or twice per week. By adding a general purpose fertilizer once or twice a month you will ensure beautiful blooms. Carnations will grow 16-18" and make great borders or with a smaller variety a good edging. Space plants 12" apart. Once your Carnations are established, they will grow well and bloom from the spring and throughout the summer.
