OUTDOORS: The seeds of Balloon flowers (Platycodon) should be sown on the soil surface in either spring or summer. They have a preference for a rich and moist soil, and like to grow in sunny or partially shaded areas of the garden that have good drainage.
INDOORS: If starting off indoors, do so about 7 or 8 weeks in advance. It should take balloon flower seeds about two to four weeks to germinate. If starting new plants from seeds in spring,do so after the last winter frost, or summer, up to 2 months before the first fall frost. When starting indoors, sow in individual pots 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost. Seeds require light to germinate, so press them lightly onto the soil, and do Not cover. You can expect flowers the second year. Balloon Flower seeds, germinate easily.
