A traditional medium early Japanese type bunching onion. At maturity, the stalk has white shanks up to 20-24" long with 6-7 deep green, thick leaves. These green onions do not form bulbs and do not multiply by division. The Ishikura Improved is tolerant to warm and cool temperatures Maturity Approx.40-50 days.
Culture: Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in late spring to fall in a sunny location. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Recommended for summer to fall sowing on the US East Coast and winter sowing in the Sunbelt. Winter hardy in most areas. Mulch if hard frost expected. Plants are mature when green leaves reach 6". White stems up to 28" can be achieved by mounding earth up over the stems to blanche them..
