Product Description

Antirrhinum majus

|100 Seeds|

2016 Cut Flower of the Year.  The evaluation is based on the cultivars' performance in the ASCFG National Cut Flower Trials, and recommendations from cut flower growers across the country. Bred by the original Goldsmith Seed Company, flowers in the Madame Butterfly series have a unique double petal form. This “azalea type” prevents pollination by insects, allowing flowers to last longer than single-petaled varieties. The mix contains bronze/white, cherry/bronze, ivory, pink, red, rose, yellow, and bronze blooms, making it useful for a wide range of floral designs. Flower stems grow 26 to 36 inches. Madame Butterfly cultivars are suitable for outdoor or high tunnel production from spring through fall. Plants can be grown single stem when spaced closely together, or multi-stem if spaced further apart, as the plants branch well. This Snapdragon is particularly favored in the cut-flower production industry . Snapdragon Flowers have its name and origins surrounded in mystery as many attribute the name to the mouth of the flower that resembles that of a dragon when opened and closed. This variety makes an incredible display in floral arrangements and centerpieces.

Tips on How to Grow Snapdragons from Seeds

  • Optimum conditions for seedling development that begins the day the crop is sown until cotyledon expansion.

  • Germination is in  10 – 21 days.

  • SOW INDOORS 8-10 weeks before last frost. 10-21 days to germinate. Direct Sow is not recommended.

  • Do Not Cover Seeds, just press lightly into very moist soil and maintain moisture levels. If you are watering indoors do so from below, (sub-irrigate.) Keep at 68-75°F.

  • Grow on at 60°; warmer temperatures cause leggy transplants. Set out after danger of frost, spacing at 9–12". Perennial in Zone 7-10, grown as an annual.
  • Light is necessary for germination.
  • TRANSPLANT into your outdoor garden after danger of frost. For Dwarf varieties 6-8 inches apart, tall varieties 12-18 inches apart.
  • Moisture: Very moist for days 1 – 3 or until radicle emergence. On days 4 – 7 reduce moisture to moist . Once actively growing, begin alternating between moisture levels wet and medium . Allow media to approach dry before re-saturating to level.
  • Light: Full sun.
