 Celebrate success with the Happy Hour Portulaca Deep Red  that has bold red flowers which was bred for reduced day length sensitivity, particularly in the southern parts of the country. Well-branched mounded plants that are less prone to breakage flower uniformly and under shorter days than other leading portulaca series. Happy Hour Portulaca performs admirably in hot, full sun garden conditions. Height: 8 to 10", 10 to 12" spread.Portulaca seeds are very little, hold over a white sheet of paper to see.Large, semi-double blooms in vivid colours. Great for hot, dry, full-sun conditions, drought-tolerant Happy Hour is sure to please. Attracts Bees, butterflies. Happy Hour Portulacas generaly bloom about 2 weeks earlier than other portulacas. Great for containers, mass plantings or in a natural landscape.

Flower Garden – Tips on Growing Portulaca From Seed

Sow Indoors

  • Keep media moist and near saturation by watering before planting seed.
  • Do not cover or bury the seed, just press lightly into the wet soil,  as Portulaca seeds needs light for germination.
  • Place in a bag at a temperature of 75-80F or seal the seed tray inside a polythene bag until after germination, which usually takes 7- 14 days.
  • Germination temperature is 75-80°, germination will take 7-14 days. Start sowing 6-8 weeks before transplanting.
  • Transplant into your garden after all frost possibilities are past.
  • You can transplant the seedlings when they have 4 true leaves 5-8 inches apart.
