Product Description

Cosmos bipinnatus

      |30 Seeds Per Package|

The latest creation to come from the World-renowned Thompson & Morgan plant breeding program. Back in 2007, US customer Diane Engdahl of Santa Rosa, California, sent us seeds of an unusual cosmos growing in her back yard. Instead of having separate petals like most cosmos, all petals are fused into one single cup, completely changing the normally daisy-looking flower. Since then our breeders have been busy fixing the unusual trait across the colour mix, developing new shades and refining the habit of this uniquely shaped 'cupcake' cosmos. Cosmos are one of the best nectar plants for attracting birds, butterflies and bees.  Cosmos 'Cupcakes' was the stand out performer in our 2014 flower trials, coping well and looking great come rain, shine or drought. This is our must-have flower for 2015, we just know you'll want to show it off to everyone.25 Seeds Per Package.

Flower Garden - Tips on Growing Cosmos From Seeds

Cosmos plants prefer full sun to partial shade. They will do well in both average and poor soils. They are tolerant dry soil conditions. Add a general purpose fertilizer once or twice a season. Cosmos are vigorous, drought tolerant plants that are grown in borders and large pots. Cosmos reseeds themselves easily, making it a nice addition to wildflower or naturalized areas. Cosmos thrives on neglect after established. Taller plants may require staking. However, this can be avoided if planted in an area protected from the wind.

DIRECT SOW

  • By Scattering seed outdoors after all danger of frost.

  • Cover 1/4" deep as they do not need light for germination or plant in a designed bed in the background 10-12" apart.

  • Germination is in about 3-5 days and can take up to 14 days.

GARDEN HINTS: Use for mass plantings. Tolerates poor soil, heat and drought conditions. Dead heading the old blooms will produce many blooms all summer long. Cosmos like full sun.
