How to Grow Summer Squash
Pretty much the same growing methods work for each of the many types of summer squash. Summer Squash is sensitive to cold temperatures and grows best during the long days of summer. If possible, prepare the growing beds in fall by turning in lots of chopped leaves or compost and cover the bed with more leaves and straw. In the spring remove the straw or leaf mulch and warm the soil with black plastic. In warm regions remove the plastic before sowing or transplanting to avoid overheating the soil later in the season.
