Portulaca Seeds

This vigorous plant series is known for its brilliant flowers. They are on display from late spring until frost; generally, the blossoms open fully in bright light and close by mid-afternoon in hot weather. Portulacas thrive in high, dry temperatures and intense sunlight without any special soil needs. Bright flowers are attractive in rock gardens, parking strips, hanging baskets, or as edgings and bank covers.

How to Grow Portulacas

DIRECT SOW by scattering seed outdoors after danger of all frost, cover seed with ¼" soil.Use in a designed bed , a rockgarden, parking strips, hanging baskets, or as an edging and bank covers. Space to 6" apart. Germination is 14-21 days. Seedlings are difficult to transplant if let to get too big, so the best advice is to just direct sow.

GARDEN HINTS: Grow Portulaca in lean soil in a sunny area. It can take hot, dry places. Avoid rich soil, and portulaca blooms more abundantly if not feed too well.
