How to Grow Cucumbers
This is a genuine warm-season crop, very sensitive to frost at both ends of the growing season that demands warmth from germination to harvest, however they mature quickly so they really do not need a lot of care. Fertilize with a complete organic fertilizer, such as fish emulsion, every 2 weeks. Once the flowers appear it is very important to maintain even soil moisture, or misshapen, poor tasting fruits will result. You can construct an A frame trellis and cover it with netting or chicken wire to support the cukes. Check the vines daily as some gardeners find smaller fruit more flavorful than large ones. Trellis cucumbers are straighter, more uniform in shape and less likely to rot or to be eaten by slugs or other pests, and less likely to be overlooked and over ripen.
